Turn a Negative into a Positive......Paperdvizhnik Challenge

The new challenge at paperDVIZHNIK is a brain cruncher. High light negative space and combine two images in one.

Negative space , in art, is the space around and between the subject (s) of an image. Negative space may be most evident when the space around a subject, and not the subject itself, forms an interesting or artistically relevant shape, and such space is occasionally USED to artistic effect as the "Real" subject of an Image. I found this challenge really difficult. Not so much the making of my page, although that was pretty time consuming, but the 'design' element.......making an 'identifiable' negative shape or space out of a positive shape or space. I did not succeed in doing this :(    I focussed only on "the space around and between the subjects of an image" . I overlapped the two moving figures and created positive/negative spaces within the figures and around the figures. To high light the difference I've kept the figures simple, just watercolour but the background detailed.

HIDE AND SEEK.

Create any project that reflects the game Hide and Seek.

My interpretation........"Life" can be seen as a game.We seek and look for many 'intangible' things.....

love, acceptance, success, happiness, security, to name a few. The numbers on my page represent not just the numbers we count when playing the game but also the years that go by as we search for these intangible ideals. They are not always easy to find, there are obstacles, things get in our way and at times we have no idea where to even start looking for these things.

We count ourselves truly lucky if we find any of these ideals and we cherish them because we know in the game "of life" the rules can change.

At the moment I'm experimenting a lot with tissue paper / water colour combinations. I've also used texture paste, acrylic paint, ink, and some embossing.

I took this photo last December when I was in Prague........a truly beautiful city but also possessing a Medieval eerieness and reverence.

Photography........ Our Beautiful World

I am linking these couple of photos up at Our Beautiful World.They were taken on my phone so are not the best quality. I'm addicted to Instagram and take my phone every where, but there are times I wish I had my "real" camera.

The prompt is "November" and here on the south coast of South Australia, that's when cockle season opens. On my last beach walk not only were there heaps of people digging in the sand for cockles but these two beautiful horses and their riders enjoying an early morning paddle.

Scrap Around The World...........Challenge #7 November 2013

Are you feeling like getting really colourful ? Well the new Scrap Around The World challenge is exactly that. The fabulously bright and inspiring mood board is by DT member Leonie Neal-Dawson and it is bright, but lends itself to so much fun and interpretation. The sketch of course is optional, and you can find all the details you need, as well as some fabulous inspiration from the DT  HERE at Scrap Around The World.

JOURNAL PAGES are now also an option at SATW, so if you are an art journaler, here is a chance to let loose in your journal book......I did in mine. I love colour, so this mood board was the perfect inspiration to record in my journal my love for one of my favourite mediums.

I used lots of washi tape, stencils, texture paste, dry embossing, stamps and of course distress paint and stains.
