Journal Page

The world and my life at the moment are in flux.
There are too many changes.
I think I am a little afraid.

Tendrils Of Excess Thought.......For Finnabair Creative Team

I tend to over-think............everything.
I feel the need to be always "plugged in".
I want to be "connected".
We can't see around corners.
Walk, don't run, but do it now.

I've used amazing Finnabair Mechanicals, Stamps, 3D Gel, Heavy Body Gel, Mica Powder, art alchemy Acrylic Paint, Micro Beads, Glass Beads.
More details and a step by step of the process can be found HERE on the Finnabair blog.
Thanks for visiting.

Connected

Visual journal page reflecting the connection a mother has to her child......so binding and so permanent.
Using ephemera images from Finnabair Ephemera Packs , I have lost myself in the collage process and the telling of my story.
More details relating to my process and the products used can be found HERE on Finnabair's blog.

I love this quote from a musician Jens Lekman (this quote came to me by way of collage queen Kelly Kilmer):

“The beauty of the collage technique is that you’re using sounds that have never met and were never supposed to meet.
You introduce them to each other, at first they’re a bit shy, clumsy, staring at their shoes.
But you can sense there’s something there.
So you cut and paste a little bit and by the end of the song you can spot them in the corner, holding hands.”

Life

New art journal page..........opposite to the one on my last post.
Sometimes the need to art journal calls for a big stage; a double spread.
Sometimes your idea is simple, and the confines of a single page work best.
More often than not, these simple, single pages will be the inspiration, the catalyst to creating a companion page.
So, this second page, "Life" looks at and into the first.

Worked with paper, coloured pencil, paint, distress stain, modeling paste and a forgotten old friend, Rub_ons.
Thanks for visiting.

The weather has been grey and bleak. I've been searching for colour.

Collage/Assemblage for Finnabair CT

Sometimes you just have to let it out. Express what's going on inside your head. Whether it is on a piece of paper, canvas, wood or in a journal, expressing your thoughts in a creative way is like "venting" to a friend: necessary and good for you.
With all the horror that we see daily on the news, it's difficult to be immune to just how "out of control" the world seems to be.
Humanity, love and religion hang in the balance...............
Try explaining these 3 things at the same time to your children in today's climate of international unrest.
Hanging In The Balance
Symbolism is a major component of art.
The face represents Humanity
The heart represents Love
The cross represents Religion
The clock represents Time
The circle that surrounds them represents The World
The printed background represents the News/ Media
As a civilisation we are hanging on.........but only just.

I love to work on wooden blocks because of their solidity.

Amazing Finnabair products used throughout...........art basics gels for image transfer and the adhesion of all embellishments and collage pieces; black and white gesso; art alchemy acrylic paints; micro beads; mechanicals; resist canvas; stamps.
A sort step by step of the construction of this piece and a full list of all products used is HERE on the Finnabair blog.

It's not always the beauty in the world that inspires us to create......the ugly is valid too.

Finnabair's Denim Journal

Who doesn't love journals ! I work more and more within a journal these days. They come in so many different shapes, sizes, different papers for different media uses. You can paint, draw, write, stick, collage and generally tell your story or express yourself any way you want in a journal. I think the "informality" of a journal, creates a more relaxed approach which in turn allows for more creative "freedom". There are no rules; it's your journal.

Denim reminds me of the 60's, and I'm an old hippy and this is exactly how I would have decorated my jeans back in the day.
This is a beautifully soft fabric journal with a number of different pages within it. There are denim pages, canvas pages, water color pages and a plastic sleeve.
I experimented first with a denim page and tried a number of different techniques......journals are perfect for experimenting in. Once you coat the denim with art basics Clear Gesso you can pretty much work with any medium on it.
1. Collage, 2. Embossing, 3. Image transfer, 4. Stamping, 5. Stencil with Gel medium and water soluble oil pastel, 6. Stencil with gel medium and acrylic paint, 7. Ink.
Added fibres and beads.
The cover is just the starting point for this little journal; there is so much more you can do inside. Check out Finn's blog HERE for more details on this project.

"Starman"

What an amazing, creative, individual David Bowie was. I grew up with his music and have always been inspired by him.
Ziggy Stardust and Major Tom, his space characters,.............one bringing hope, the other lost in despair.
"Planet earth is blue and there's nothing I can do."

This whole dimensional page is composed almost entirely of Finnabair product, the mediums as well as the embellishments.
You can find a list of all the products HERE on Finnabair's blog, along with a little step by step of how I put it all together.
Thanks for visiting, and of course I'd love to hear what you think.
