Tea on Tuesday

A couple of weeks before Christmas I had High Tea with some friends at a little shop called Tangerine Dreams. Sounds sort of Middle Eastern but far from it; it was very English with lovely old English furnishings and china. The shop also had for sale lots of vintage hats, jewellery, dolls, and books. If you would like to know more about Tea On Tuesday find out here.

We had lots to eat, pate', tartlets, scones, little cakes, smoked salmon sandwiches and these classics.......cucumber ribbon sandwiches. Of course there was tea, several varieties, and coffee, all served from beautiful silver pots.

Loved this beautiful old silver dispenser.........not so keen on the paper sugar sachets in it. I guess maybe originally it held sugar cubes or perhaps loose leaf tea. If anybody knows I would love to hear its original use.

  1. it looks like a tea caddy. What a lovely idea your tea on tuesday is. I have tea in a china cup every afternoon at 4pm, has to be leaf tea - so English! love these shots.

  3. What a fun outing!! I'm so glad you brought your camera! The caddy would be wonderful for so many things .... I can picture silk ribbons overflowing from it .... Or well loved and used paintbrushes set brush-end-out to dry ..... Oh the imagination we have .... It goes well beyond the paper sugar packet variety :)

    Cheers and happy Tuesday!

  9. There used to be two places in my town that served high tea. It was an afternoon event. Both are now gone, due to the recession. You were very lucky to have found this wonderful place. Although I have NO idea what that caddy was originally for, I love the glow you have created from it in your photo. You take the BEST photos.

BTW, I hope all is well in your part of the country. I have been watching the news and all that flooding doesn't look good. Stay safe, dear.

  10. I keep thinking of you with these floods, are you anywhere near? it is so truly awful.
With taking black and white shots I don't actually think 'today I will take a black and white', usually if something is textured or contrasting then it looks better in black and white, I swap around on my computer and if something doesn't look great in colour it generally looks better in black and white so don't do anything fancy on your computer, try photographing a jar of buttons and then make it black and white on your computer through photoshop if that's what you use or if you have a canon I can tell you how to change the camera to black and white.
