Yes, they are pink and red and they're called Iced Vo Vo's. Another "classic" Australian biscuit made by Arnotts. It was first made in 1906 and is still going strong. Our previous Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, mentioned them in his 2007 election victory speech, jokingly urging his team to "have a strong cup of tea with an iced Vo Vo before getting to work". This biscuit consists of a relatively soft biscuit base that is topped with fairly thick, pink fondant icing, with a strip of raspberry jam down the middle, which actually contains raspberries. It is then liberally dusted with dessicated coconut.One biscuit connoisseur has said: "they are a fussy biscuit, with too much going on.....the coconut, the jam, the icing all fight for supremacy on the palette, whilst the rather soft base lacks any backbone to give texture".
For me, they are just a very sweet and rather girly and pretty biscuit ( even tho my husband loves them ) and go beautifully with Jasmine tea. Wishing you all a sweet Tuesday.
wow I remember iced vo vos, the children never liked them, give me tim tams any day and I can eat the whole packed. Sounds a delicious combination with jasmine tea.I love your shots, they look very inviting!

That was quite a bit of effort that biscuit connoisseur gave this little guy wasn't it? I'm not a coconut fan but otherwise I think I would enjoy them too! They certainly photograph well! Happy Tuesday!

ReplyDeleteThey look very sweet and girly .... I wonder at politicians sometimes (did he lose any points for suggesting everyone start the day with a rather girly sweet biscuit?) funny! Here in the US our biscuits (cookies) are pretty ordinary .... Chips Ahoy, Oreos, Nilla Wafers ..... And I think the average person gobbles down a half of a package in front of the TV without even really thinking about what they may taste like ... You are much more civilized :)
