Mexican Sugar Skull.........Mixed Media Place


Here is my recent project made for Mixed Media Place.
This polystyrene skull has been looking at me from a shelf for over 2 years. I thought it was time to bring it to life in celebration of the departed. Inspired by the beautiful bright and intricately detailed Mexican Sugar Skulls, used as part of  the Day Of The Dead celebrations, I created my own version using paints, paper and metal embellishments. 

It says "Feed Me Inspiration". For me, that's the key to creativity.
Silks acrylic glazes, Ecoline liquid water colours, and Sparkling H2Os can create such richness and depth of colour but can be equally soft when watered down.


My love of colour, florals and detailed pattern took over.
There are lots of beautiful metal embellishments available now, and Ranger patinas are perfect for colouring them.


I've made a video: just a series of photos really showing the process from start to finish.

    WOW - this is amazing! Loved watching the video. Have been wanting to get some Ranger Patina's - they are now on the top of my list. Love your use and mix of the mechanicals. A very unique piece. Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration!
