Mixed Media Place.........The Beat Goes On
There are lots of "bits" making up this piece, all with different surfaces........wood, metal, chipboard, polystyrene, plastic and paper and the 3D Matte Gel has been used throughout to secure them. An added bonus is how easy and "clean" it is to use and how it dries completely clear.
Using Soft Gloss Gel with Acrylic paint makes it more translucent, and then easier to build up richly coloured layers of paint.
A list of products I used can be found HERE at Mixed Media Place and they can be purchased from HERE at Mixed Media Place Store.

Mixed Media Place.........Music Challenge
The next Summer Music Challenge at Mixed Media Place is Adele's Rolling In The Deep. See HERE for details.
I have very "literally" illustrated the lyrics "you had my heart inside your hand and you played it to the beat."
Nothing very "deep and meaningful" about my interpretation. Just a hand (drawn and water coloured) holding a heart by strings attached to it.
My favourite part of this page is the "tatood" arm, using a stamp and Masking Fluid (see previous post HERE )
As well as paper and some washi tape a Finnabair Elementals stencil "Netting" creates part of the background, and I've used it with heavy gel medium which is a little more resistant to colour than what texture paste would be and creates a more subtle pattern.
Amongst my stash of stamps I have two favourites.....I use them constantly. Both created by Finnabair for Prima; one is the Vintage Book stamp ( in red ) from the Vintage Vanity Collection and the other one is Clear Stamp #1 from the Sunrise Sunset Collection; here it's been embossed with white.
All the colour, well there are only three, plus black, comes from Ecoline water colour. The concentric circles representing "the beat" of the heart is a TCW stencil
As always I've indulged my love for fussy cutting and collage and these floral elements create the central background for the heart.

Book Box Colour
Today I'm working on the Book Box that I started a few weeks ago. Throwing lots of colour at some Finnabair Elementals Resist Canvas.
Tomorrow I head to Melbourne for 4 days to do 3 workshops with Andrea Matus de Meng.
I am beyond excited.

Mixed Media Place.......Journal Page
For Mixed Media Place this month I've made an art journal page to highlight stamps. In the past stamps were pretty much always the domain of card makers, but now with the popularity of mixed media, stamps are used by every one. For scrapbooking we tend to keep them in the background, but for this journal page I'm using stamps as my focus. These Dina Wakley face stamps are very expressive. I have also used stamps from 3rd Eye and Finnabair's range. Most of the colour on these pages comes from Prima's Color Bloom spray mists, such beautiful rich and pure colours.
Gold Foil is my favourite....the photo below does not do justice to the intense gold shimmer that this product produces.
I have used a total of 5 different coloured mists on this tag. By not allowing each colour to properly dry before adding the next colour creates a soft, subtle, blended look....mmmm, maybe some people would say 'muddy', but it was an experiment that I liked the look of.

When the tag is flipped over the mood of the page has changed. I am almost to the point where I don't want to watch the news or open a news paper any more. The atrocities that are happening in so many places all over the world due to conflict just continues: and it breaks my heart.
The tears will never stop falling until the guns stop shooting.
I feel that this post is 'gloomy'. I don't apologise for it. My journal pages will always reflect my thoughts, my ideas, my emotions. The image this week of a little boy holding up a decapitated head and being told by his father that this is a good thing is beyond belief, but it's real.
In my 'lucky' part of the world life goes on. I'm fortunate and I'm thankful.
All stamps, mists and materials are from Mixed Media Place. For a full list of materials see HERE.

I love winter, I don't want it to end, but here we are already into August. These are some glorious winter images taken in the last few weeks on my iphone.

paperDVIZHNIK Sketch Challenge #46
Love this sketch at paperDVIZHNIK for their latest challenge but have only just got around to working with it. So much fun....paint, ink, a few bits of paper, simple.
How gorgeous are these Prima Lace Stickers ?! I wanted my page to be grungy but feminine, so the punched floral heart and lace title are thrown in with animal print paper and paint splatters.
Embossed with white through a stencil and coloured with Silks.
